About the Organization

Our Mission

Not Your Average Yogi is a mission-driven organization delivering trauma-informed yoga and resilience-based programming in high-pressure environments.

We work with incarcerated individuals, individuals in reentry, and leadership professionals to build emotional regulation, discipline, and structured accountability through movement and breathwork.

Our platform operates through a hybrid model — combining institutional and community programming, leadership workshops and corporate training, paid public workshops and events, speaking engagements, and donations and sponsorships.

"The goal is to build a sustainable organization that bridges rehabilitation, leadership development, and nervous system regulation. We are structured, serious, and results-oriented."

Discipline

Structure and accountability through intentional movement and breathwork.

Resilience

Nervous system regulation tools for high-pressure environments and transitions.

Transformation

Measurable changes in behavior, decision-making, and emotional regulation.

Leadership

The Founder

James Lesly Christophe

Founder & Lead Facilitator

I founded Not Your Average Yogi after rebuilding my life through discipline and structured yoga practice following incarceration. Yoga became a tool for emotional regulation, accountability, and leadership development.

Today, I deliver trauma-informed programming in institutional and high-pressure environments to help individuals build resilience, structure, and self-regulation.

I am driven by the belief that real rehabilitation and leadership development must include the body. Structure, breath control, and disciplined movement create measurable changes in behavior and decision-making.

"I want to bring those tools into environments where pressure is high and resources are limited."
