Free Yoga Class for Men in Montréal (West Island)
Once a month, we run a free yoga class for men. No experience needed. No flexibility needed. You don’t need to be “into yoga.” You just need to show up.
The class is run with HoMMage — Men’s Health & Mastery, out of West Island Jiu Jitsu in Pierrefonds.
When and where
- When: Last Sunday of every month, 2:00 PM
- Where: West Island Jiu Jitsu, 15710 Pierrefonds Blvd., Pierrefonds, QC
- Cost: Free
Next classes: Sunday, October 25 and Sunday, November 29, 2026.
Who it’s for
Guys who train hard and never recover. Guys who sit at a desk all week and feel it in their back. Guys who’ve never done yoga and figure it isn’t for them. Guys carrying stress they don’t talk about.
If you can sit on the floor and breathe, you can do this class. If sitting on the floor is hard right now, we’ll work with that too.
What happens in the room
We start with the breath. Slowing it down so your body gets the message that it’s safe. Then we move: hips, back, shoulders, the places that lock up from work, the gym, or the mat. We finish lying down doing nothing. For a lot of men, that’s the hardest part.
The class is trauma-informed. That means you’re in charge of your body. Every pose has options. You can skip anything. No hands-on adjustments. Nobody calls you out.
Why it’s free
Not Your Average Yogi is a nonprofit registered in Québec. Our mission is to bring yoga, breathwork, and real conversation to people who don’t usually get offered it: men, people affected by incarceration, youth, and communities that get left out of wellness. A free class every month is the simplest way to open the door.
Coming for the first time?
- Wear something you can move in.
- Bring water.
- No mat needed. We practice on the gym’s padded floor.
- Show up 10 minutes early so we can say hi.

The story behind the work
Before any of this, there was a cell. Not Your Average Yogi: From Violence to Service is the memoir behind the mission. How a kid built a shell, how prison broke it open, and how books, Bibles, and breath built something back.
